Three Benefits of Using Snapshot Backup Techniques

Data Backup

The digitization of corporate data has led to data sets becoming increasingly large and many businesses often fall behind in completing up to date backups of vital data due to bandwidth constraints and the time that it takes to transfer the often millions of files that need to be secured on a daily basis. Owing to the need to negate these factors as much as possible, many software providers have incorporated specific tools within their products that allow data to be backed up in an encrypted format and transferred to an external storage device that can be safely uploaded directly to a backup storage location without incurring large bandwidth utilization costs. Utilizing snapshot backups have many benefits, a few of which are listed below.

1.      Snapshot Backups don’t affect your Bandwidth

Snapshot backups don’t place a large load on a company’s internet connectivity as all data that is backed up is transferred locally to an external device. In most instances, the backup application installed on either a user’s machine or server will send an authentication request to the Primary Backup Account Server verifying the details of the backup account as well as its encryption standards. Once received, the application will begin its backup process and will transfer the data to the specified local location, with no data being transferred over the line.

2.      Large Data Set can be Backed Up using Snapshot Backup Technology

Snapshot backups are uniquely beneficial when large data sets need to be backed up or the first backup of an account is run. While most backup software providers have intelligent de-duplication and compression features built in to their packages, large amounts of data will often need to be transferred to the storage location, particularly when the initial backup is run or the account has not performed a backup for an extended period of time. Backing the data up to a removable storage device allows for the information to be transferred and imported to the Backup Platform using specific tools that verify that the new information is stored on the server in the correct format, allowing for restores to be accessed when needed. Snapshot backups also play a vital role in allowing entire server images to be backed up, allowing servers to be restored in a bare metal fashion.

3.      Large Data Sets can be restored

Snapshot backup technology provides benefits not only limited to the transferring of backup data but also to the restoring large data sets that would take large amounts of time to restore over the internet. Utilizing Snapshot Backup technology, data can be restored in its original encrypted format to a removable storage device, and then locally restored from the machine that the data resides on, saving valuable time in the restore of particularly large data sets. Snapshot backup technology is also particularly useful in the restore of bare metal image backups when an entire server, as well as its Operating System and settings need to be recovered.

The Redstor Backup pro software has various tools and applications that facilitate snapshot backups and restores on both file and entire server level. The snapshot tool, included in both the Desktop/Laptop and Server Edition backup Clients seamlessly facilitate both snapshot backups and restores in an easy to follow manner, without compromising on their encryption standards, and ensuring that the integrity of the backed up data is not interfered with. Snapshot technology has an important role to play in an effective backup strategy, and when implemented at the correct times, allows for both the saving of time and bandwidth costs.
