Reported data breaches figure has risen tenfold

Thu, 06/09/2012 - 15:22
According to recent figures released by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), data breaches in the UK have increased tenfold in the past five years. This increase emphasizes that companies, now more than ever, should work to ensure their data backup, storage and protection strategies are well thought out and well managed. The ICO has stated that part of the reason for the increase in reported breaches is that breaches are more often reported than previously. This is due to increased awareness of the legal responsibility of organisations to protect people's data. Since 2010, the ICO has been able to impose fines up to the value of £500,000 on organisations it finds guilty of losing information due to negligence.Redstor, specialists in backup, recovery, archiving and storage since 1998 are well placed to offer advice and consultancy in these areas.Redstor's Backup Service for Schools service (RBUSS) for example, has become the de facto standard service for backing up primary schools data whilst our commercial Online Backup services are protecting data for many thousands or organisations from large corporations to SMEs and SMBs across the UK.In addition to backup, Redstor's Cloud Storage and Cloud Archiving services enable organisations to protect their data securely and cost-effectively whilst requiring minimum management.
