Confidential data lost once more - a sobering thought

Confidential data lost once more - a sobering thought

posted in Cyber-SecurityCyber-Security ● 24 Aug 2011

In an all too familiar scenario, it was recently reported that an unencrypted memory stick was left in a London pub with confidential data leaked. The data related to 20,000+ tenants of Lewisham Homes and 6,000+ tenants of Wandle Housing Associations and included sensitive data such as bank account details. The memory stick belonged to a contractor working for the two London housing bodies, who have since had their knuckles wrapped by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) who’ve told them they need to take further steps to protect personal information and  encrypt portable devices. This situation could’ve been avoided if the housing bodies used Redstor Protector on their PCs/Laptops as the Port Access Control feature would allow them to stop unencrypted portable devices being used to rip-off data from them. As well as this, Redstor Protector also provides automatic backup, device trace, remote data deletion and encryption. If you’d like to hear more about how you can securely protect your data, please do e-mail Redstor.
