Hard Disk Drive failures remain the UK’s leading cause of data loss

Redstor posted in Cloud backup | 10 Jul 2014

A recent report by Kroll Ontrack revealed that Hard Disk Drive (HDD) failures remain the UK’s most significant cause of data loss.  The research showed that HDD failures were responsible for over 67% of data loss incidents in both business and home users, compared with 14% who admitted human error and 10% who attributed software failure to their data loss.

The comprehensive survey also delved into the significant consequences of data loss. Of the respondents, 27% revealed they had experienced a disruption to critical business processes that prevented them or their company from providing a product or service to their customers. Furthermore, alluding to matters discussed in Redstor’s prior blog posts, around 7% of respondents said that they had lost business data from their own home, showing that IT is no longer restricted to the office and that IT staff must create appropriate policies to ensure business data is protected anywhere, on all devices.

Redstor provides a secure and automated data backup service that is reliable, infinitely scalable and perhaps most importantly, fast. The service automatically protects data residing on desktops, laptops, servers and network attached storage devices.
