Three Exciting Emerging Technologies in the Cloud World

Old versus new…..

There was a time not too long ago where a cloud was a white fluffy vapour pocket floating in the sky. Now when we refer to the cloud, we mean a collection of remote networks and software connections which can be accessed via a multitude of devices to store our precious data.

Variation on a theme…...

Cloud technology seems to have no bounds. It crops up in all aspects of our life now whether it’s a traffic management system, a TV Ad campaign or a data storage and encryption solution. Like so many things, these three emerging technologies that were once worlds apart, are now linked thanks to the cloud. Let me take you through these one by one.

Big Brother….

Ever been sat in a traffic jam and wandered who’s watching you? The chances are wherever you go now within a major city, there are monitoring devices capturing your every move. More and more cities are moving towards a more efficient running of their region on the planet. Traffic management operators utilise cloud based technology to actually help alleviate congestion and contribute to faster emergency services response times.

Another way cities are utilising this emerging technology is for better standards of living for its residents. Imagine a world where a bin within a park contacts the refuse disposal firm to come and empty it when its nearing capacity, or office buildings that have integrated sensors to detect a faulty printer then emails the maintenance man to fix it thus saving business down time….. Well, these times are upon us already!

Fluffy TV

As if rubbish bins with an NVQ in waste management wasn’t enough, cloud technology is also changing the way TV stations broadcast soaps and adverts into our living room. The utilisation of this emerging technology means traditional broadcasters are no longer reliant on expensive and sometimes restrictive satellites. With film crews, engineers, operators and many more team members scattered across the world, the cloud brings everyone together in one global management cost-effective system, which can then deliver more appropriate content to us, the viewer.
This is how broadcasters can help make the adverts more appealing to us. The cloud locates your geographical position and slots in content that is relevant to the city you are in, not to the stations location. Clever huh!

Is it safe…….?

With every new emerging technology there comes a cyber-bully eager to jumble our cables. Security within the cloud is a major player at Cloud events around the globe as we try and stay one step ahead of these internet tormentors. It seems we can’t go a day without someone acquiring something that doesn’t belong to them whether it’s taking over someone’s Facebook profile or hacking online gaming accounts and stealing thousands of credit card numbers.

So what can be done? There are now companies that actually specialise in manufacturing and deploying cloud security systems. If businesses do not have a back-up arrangement in place should the worst happen, its leads itself wide open to some expensive and potentially reputation damaging down time. The Business Continuity guide is something that could shed some light on this new and murky world for businesses all over the globe and stay one step ahead of the cyber-nasty’s.
