Lack of e-safety resulting in cyber bullying rise

Lack of e-safety resulting in cyber bullying rise

posted in Cyber-Security ● 25 Jul 2011

A leading children’s charity has warned of an increase in cyber bullying. Jeremy Todd, chief executive of the charity Family Lives, said the onlinebullying of Natasha MacBryde was “awful and unacceptable”. The 15-year-old was found dead on a railway 150 yards from her home after being subjected to abusive comments online.”Cyberbullying is on the increase,” said Todd. “Parents are way behind their children in terms of keeping up with the technology used. When you can see what has happened to this teenager we can see that this is incredibly dangerous.”This presents a challenge for many parents and in turn, teachers who are effectively playing catch-up with the classroom bullies who’ve moved from nasty nicknames in the playground to direct and highly abusive attacks using technology. It is not uncommon for school children to write abusive messages on screen to other pupils, both disrupting the lesson and causing distress for those bullied.Redstor E-Safety is an effective and simple to manage way of being able to monitor all content being accessed in the classroom and help schools to meet Ofsted’s Safeguarding requirement. Pupils sign up to an acceptable usage policy each time they access a machine and our e-Safety service silently sits in the background monitoring all behaviour and content accessed. Using a set of keywords defined by the school / Local Authority, snapshots are then taken when these instances appear. Key examples include schools being able to monitor when websites such as Facebook are being accessed during lesson time as well as inappropriate search terms being entered. If you’re interested in hearing more about Redstor E-Safety, please e-mail Redstor.

What is data immutability and can it be achieved for backups?

Something that is ‘immutable’ will by definition never change or cannot be changed.
