Kris Scruby, ICT Schools Services Manager from East Sussex County Council has been featured in an article published in Government Computing discussing the strategic transformation of East Sussex Council’s IT service to schools. This is an organisation that Redstor have worked closely with over the past 3 years, helping them not only deliver a cloud backup service, but also underpinning their service delivery transformation with CentraStage, the SaaS IT management platform. The article gives a wonderful insight into how, without breaking the bank or relying on CAPEX, East Sussex are improving service levels whilst driving huge efficiency savings which they are then re-investing into new services for schools.
Centrastage is a highly secure and flexible approach to device management that brings school IT staff visibility and control from a single, remote cloud platform. Addressing the challenge of managing an increasing number of devices on a school’s network was a rising challenge for IT staff. Following the implementation of Centrastage, Scruby says the percentage of incidents the council were able to fix remotely increased by 45%. “We used to be able to fix 15% of incidents remotely, when we moved to the new solution (Centrastage) it jumped to 60%”. The benefit of this increase is clearly detailed as he continued, “That’s a massive saving. We haven’t reduced our staff. Schools see technicians for less time but more regularly and often. We’ve managed to invest the savings into more development, consulting, training teachers to make better use of their tools rather than just firefighting.”
This approach is clearly attractive to schools, as the council has seen around 75% of primary schools and 60% of secondary schools sign up to its fully managed service, as opposed to around 50% prior to Centrastage. Scruby believes this is due to the council not only being able to provide a top quality service to schools, but also that the solution is “more cost-effective than a school doing everything themselves.” Alongside
