On 24 February 2025, Redstor, in partnership with Edunova and with funding from the Bregal Helps Initiative, had the privilege of unveiling a new tech lab and two classrooms at Makhosana Manzini High School in Calcutta, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Attending the ceremony were Redstor’s CEO James Griffin and Chief People Officer Zoe Boreham. Their presence at the event underscores our commitment to bridging the digital divide and supporting initiatives in aid of that vision. James and Zoe were welcomed by a cheering crowd of nearly 2,000 students, highlighting the transformational power of technology and community-driven investment.

Investing in the future

With 30 brand-new laptops and a fully equipped learning centre, the new facilities double classroom capacity to provide students with access to greater digital learning and essential tech skills. Beyond the physical infrastructure, the initiative aims to create lasting opportunities for long-term success.

This project would not have been possible without a £70,000 grant, showcasing the Bregal Helps Initiative’s generous commitment to social responsibility and community support. Another key driver was Portia Mabaso, a former Redstor employee of over 13 years who is a former student of Makhosana Manzini. Portia’s dedication to giving back to her community played a pivotal role in turning this vision into reality, showcasing the ripple effect that can be achieved through investing in education.

A school of excellence

Led by Principal Mr. Nkuna, Makhosana Manzini High School continues to defy the odds. Despite class sizes of up to 107 learners, the school consistently delivers outstanding academic results. It achieved a 90%+ pass rate last year, with over 50% of students securing a bachelor pass.

Redstor CEO James Griffin said: “Makhosana Manzini High School has achieved an outstanding academic record in challenging conditions, and Redstor is honoured to support its continued success. This tech lab represents more than just access to digital tools. Thanks to the support of Bregal Helps and our partnership with Edunova, we are investing in both the future of these students and the wider opportunity we see across South Africa”.

Looking ahead

Redstor looks forward to watching Makhosana Manzini High School go from strength to strength. This initiative marks the start of our continued engagement with the school, ensuring that the tech lab remains a hub of innovation and learning.  Over the coming months, we will work closely with educators and students to maximise the centre’s impact.
