Lavabit and Silent Circle shut down email services

Following the steps of Lavabit, Silent Circle have announced the closure of their email service, Silent Mail. SM had not yet been asked to disclose information by the NSA, however felt that it would be beneficial to close their service now, than risk the breach of privacy for their customers. Silent Mail felt these steps necessary due to the high profile audience that use their service. Currently, we are unaware of the exact reasons which caused the shutdown of these services due to secrecy laws.The true economic cost of PRISM is yet to be discovered, however the scandal is expected to cost the American cloud industry $35billion by 2016.
