Oxfordshire Arson Attack

posted in Backup & RecoveryBusiness Continuity ● 17 Aug 2018

Last week an arsonist attacked 3 buildings in Oxfordshire, including Oxfordshire Council HQ, resulting in serious fire damage. A 47 year old man has been arrested in connection with the attacks though it is unclear as to his motives; it has been suggested it is due to a disagreement with the planning office.

Thankfully these types of attacks are rare, nevertheless it is important to ensure that your business continuity plans are able to deal with disasters of all kinds. Fortunately it appears that South Oxfordshire District Council does have some business continuity and disaster recovery plan in place, as a spokesperson from the offices said: “We are putting our business continuity plan into place to make sure the effect on the most important services is kept to a minimum.”

However, the council has said it will take about a week to restore the authorities’ IT systems. “Some parts of our website work on systems that we are still restoring and might not work as normal, for example online application forms and reporting. Also, as our phone service isn’t completely restored, some phone numbers may not work.”

Loss of data for even a few hours can be catastrophic to a business, how much would it cost your business to be part offline for up to a week? Could you recover from that? Whether it be an attack such as this, flooding or an IT failure Redstor understand that there often just aren’t enough hours in the day to create a comprehensive disaster recovery plan.

Redstor’s Virtual Disaster Recovery (VDR) service guarantees that your business is up and running within minutes following a disaster. All that is required to invoke recovery is a simple phone call to our team of experts who are available 24/7, 365.

Should your business suffer a disaster, data and systems can be made accessible, securely, from anywhere in the world, systems are tested nightly, which has the added advantage of identifying issues on live systems enabling proactive prevention of downtime.

The service also removes the need to retain standby hardware at a colocation. Once installed, the service copies and tests your business servers nightly to ensure that the VDR process will succeed when required. VDR simplifies the disaster recovery process ensuring it is fast, simple and guaranteed to succeed.
