Symantec to cease offering Backup Exec.cloud in January 2014

posted in Product ● 28 Nov 2013

Symantec has announced plans to close down its Backup Exec.cloud service and will cease selling subscriptions and renewals for this service on January 6th 2014. The stated reason for this decision was the intention to “focus on more productive and feature rich cloud services.” In particular, Symantec have stated that the service’s lack of mobile and content-sharing features were key motivators for the move.

Backup Exec, Alternatives

Existing Symantec Backup Exec.cloud users will have to find an alternative solution and migrate their data to it, either before their subscription expires or, at the latest, before January 6th, 2015. Redstor’s Online Backup and Centrastor services are each ideal alternatives for existing Backup Exec.cloud customers depending on their requirements.

Additionally, Redstor can address the challenges of cloud-based mobile data access and file sync and share with our cloud based Centrastor service. Centrastor allows centralised management of cloud storage usable internally or externally and on mobile devices from any location. Additionally, The service provides encrypted file sync and share for business to enable and enhance efficient working.
