Recent estimates by Reading Council officers estimate that 2600 new primary school spaces will need to be created over a 7 year period beginning in 2014 in order to cater for population growth. The project to create these additional spaces could see up to 4 new academies built over and above expansions to existing schools including Battle Primary and Alfred Sutton. The majority of the new spaces are needed in Central and Western Reading with over 1,400 estimated to be needed in these areas.
