The ICO has issued an undertaking to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for improvements to be made to staff training following a severe breach of the Data Protection Act. A Health Board employee was transporting sensitive documents home, including a patient’s medical health tribunal report, when the files were lost off the back of the bicycle. The health board does have in place secure, alternative means of data transportation such as encrypted portable devices and remote server access, therefore negating the need to transport the documents physically; however the employee was yet to receive training upon these solutions.

The ICO decided against a monetary fine, but considered that due to the sensitive information Health Boards handle that an overhaul of staff training procedures was required to ensure that a similar mistake would not occur again. Redstor's Centrastor service offers secure, easy to use cloud storage for workers that need to access documents away from their desk. Files stored in Centrastor's cloud are just as easily accessed as those stored locally, regardless of whether you are office based or roaming. Centrastor increases productivity by providing seamless access through any Internet connected device and even has apps for iOS and Android. The service alleviates the security risks of consumer grade document storage, or in this case human error, through offering secure, unlimited cloud storage that can scale up or down according to need.

Redstor’s Online Backup service ensures data is safely backed up offsite in an encrypted format and our CentraStage service enables support providers to guarantee that devices they support are regularly audited, patched and safely up-to-date for effective endpoint management.
