UK government to adopt 'cloud first' policy

UK government to adopt 'cloud first' policy

posted in GDPR ● 8 Mar 2013

In a move which will mirror a policy adopted in the US in 2010, the UK government will soon adopt a “cloud first” policy, where central government will be required to make use of public cloud services if at all possible. In the US in 2010, then US federal government chief information officer Vivek Kundra established targets of pushing 25% of all federal IT spend to cloud computing. The key aim of doing this was to decrease overall tech spend. As yet, no firm date has been given as to when this will happen in the UK, however indications suggest that it will be soon.Redstor is well placed to assist organisations including public sector organisations in making use of public cloud services. Redstor has already been awarded a framework agreement by G-Cloud. G-Cloud is a programme launched in February 2012 which has the aim of driving the uptake of cloud computing in the public sector. The online system allows the public sector to rent the use of services as needed and do away with lengthy contracts.Redstor’s range of public cloud services include online backup, access anywhere cloud storage, IT asset & device management & e-safety.
