Symantec cease Backup Exec.cloud service

Symantec cease Backup Exec.cloud service

posted in Backup & Recovery ● 12 Dec 2013

Following the news that Symantec will cease selling Backup Exec.cloud subscriptions and renewals on January 6th 2015; many have been left in a quandary about what to do with their data. Exisiting users of Symantec’s cloud must fully migrate their data to an alternative service before their subscription expires, or at the latest by January 6th 2015. Symantec gave the key motivators for terminating the service as its lack of mobile and content sharing features, saying that the service was never designed with these in mind and would be unable to compete with competitor products.

Redstor are offering free migration to all Backup Exec.cloud customers to our Online Backup service. Launched in 2005, Redstor Online Backup today protects the data of over 10,000 customers across the UK so new and existing users alike can be confident that Redstor’s service will continuously improve and adapt to changing market requirements to ensure that your data is always protected. Redstor encrypts your data prior to transit and it remains encrypted at all times so no one, not even Redstor, can access your data.

Redstor is 100% privately owned and UK based and as such ensures that your data will never the leave the UK or breach data protection requirements. Additionally, cited as a main reason for termination of the service was the inability to provide secure content sharing features. Offsite Backupservice ensures data is safely backed up offsite in an encrypted format. Our cloud sync and share service, Centrastor, enables organisations to store and share files securely online from any device with an Internet connection and our CentraStage service enables support providers to guarantee that devices they support are regularly audited, patched and safely up-to-date for effective centralised device management. Our Virtual Disaster Recovery service guarantees to have your systems up and running within minutes following a disaster.
