Redstor Secure the SNS Football Tournament Cup

After a grueling 9 match day, Redstor emerged victorious after beating Pillar Data 3-2 on a penalties in the final of the SNS 5-a-side tournament played at Bisham Abbey.

Having supported the competition since its inception in 2003, the cup has always eluded the team but this year was very different! Finishing top of the group league during the initial stages with only 2 goals conceded, thrust Redstor into the cup competition to play the likes of EMC, Emulex and Xyratex. Finishing in third place with only 1 loss and only 1 goal conceded meant a semi-final clash with CMS. With the game finished at 0-0, and 5 penalties each leaving the score drawn at 1-1, sudden death ensued with Redstor the winners with a 2-1 win, setting up an intriguing final against Pillar Data, who had not lost a game the entire event.

The final was a tight affair, and after 2 minutes Redstor nudged in front with a well taken corner and the ball finding itself to Chris Sigley who planted it firmly into the Pillar net. However the lead did not last long with Pillar pulling level with a fine individual effort that left the Redstor goalkeeper, Steve Harcourt unsighted. During the second half, no team could break the deadlock, and with muscles aching and locking up, the lottery of a penalty shootout once again would find the winner. Pillar Data elected to go first, and after the 5 penalties it was 1-1 only 1 person on each team had scored, (ironically the Redstor goal coming from our goalkeeper Steve) with sudden death, the only way to separate the teams. The score rose to 2-2 and with Pillar missing their 8th penalty, the tense affair eventually found a winner with Jon Ashley stepping up and putting the goalkeeper the wrong way to secure the victory and the cup!

Player of the Tournament went to Steve "the cat" Harcourt, who managed to keep his cool throughout the semi and the final with some outstanding saves!
